Penguin holiday cut short

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Penguins taking-a-break-from-it-all in Brasil are to be flown back home according to Aunty

The Penguins, which have been sunning themselves on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, can look forward to a first class trip back courtesy of the Brasillian Air Force ( Força Aérea Brasileira. )

On a related note, apparently penguins do not fall over when planes fly over head.

If you have never seen the League of Gentleman, then the reference to Papa Lazarou in the title is probably lost on you.

Over at Instructables they have a guide to building your own prison-style Tattoo machine.

The Wikipedia entry for Tattoo is pretty poor, except for the section on Natural Tattoos.

Evil baby names banned in Malaysia

Grrr… grumble

Brad maintains a list of bad baby names on his website, I myself have a list of evil baby names for my potential offspring, which I am always happy to talk about, it might be because of this that I don’t currently have any children, at least not that I know of ( ?! )

Malaysia in their collected wisdom have decided that evil, bad and downright silly baby names are to be banned.

“The list came as a response to the growing number of Malaysians who are applying to change their birth names.”

“Traditionally, some groups have given newborns inauspicious names to ward off demons and evil spirits.”

“Now names like the Hokkien Chinese Ah Chwar, meaning snake, and Khiow Khoo, meaning hunchback, are being ruled out.”

“So too are Cantonese monikers Chow Tow, meaning smelly head, and Sor Chai, meaning insane.”

From Petit Poussin

We know dogs aren’t born mooing, but what about people? are they `born gay`?

This has had me in hysterics, of course the scary thing is they’re serious.

The driving force behind this is to do with the legislation of same-sex marraiges in Colorado, and you too should feel that homosexuality is “pretty silly”.

In conclusion, if you feel you need to be fixed, you should speak to these people, they will cure you of your gay-disease, then we can all listen to Buju Banton as one great homophobic people.

England football shirt was dead give away of forged passport

Friday, July 28th, 2006

From Reuters

An England football shirt gave away a Senegalese man attempting to enter Cyprus on a forged French passport, police on the Mediterranean island said on Monday.

Suspicions were aroused when the man appeared at a checkpoint supervising crossings from the Turkish Cypriot north to the Greek Cypriot south of the divided island, wearing the England shirt and presenting a French passport.

“Being a football fan, the officer found it highly unlikely that a Frenchman would want to wear an England football jersey,” a police source said.

“That was his first suspicion prior to the proper check on the passport, which turned out to be a fake,” said the source.

The 22-year-old man, who has not been charged, was remanded in custody for six days pending further inquiries.

When it comes to security, never underestimate the Human element.

iBrella

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Living in Hilo, we are accustomed to a spot of rain, it doesn’t rain as often as, say Seattle, but we get more rain than anywhere else in the U.S, when measuring in inches.

The iBrella is a DIY iPod controller, opening and closing plays and pauses tracks , shaking the brolly causes random tune selection, twisting clockwise appears to skip ahead to the next track, and counterclockwise skips back. You can turn the volume up and down, but I’m not sure how that works yet, it appears to be turning, but I am not sure.

The end of organic crops

Enric chose to burn nearly two-thirds of his organic maize crop after testing revealed up to 12.6 percent of it was contaminated with GE, rather than sell his crop at a premium through the organic market.

Sow

Following on from yesterdays post, I saw the pig again this morning.Instead of pulling over and going back to get a picture, I just got my camera out and drove as close as possible to get the picture.

I noticed it was a sow, so she may have been out foraging for food for her lil’ piglets. Who knows ?
